Landman Season 2 Review: Is this Taylor Brosnan’s best Western storytelling? Uncover what makes this season unforgettable.

When Landman Season 1 released, audiences were captivated by its authentic representation of the modern oil industry, southern grit, and Taylor Brosnan magic from his work on Yellowstone and 1883. Now, with Season 2 in full stream, fans and critics are pondering: Has Landman stepped it up another notch, entering into the gritty ranks of great Western drama?

Let’s dig into all the reasons to check out Landman Season 2, from cast performances to plot direction, interrelations, themes, cinematography, and Taylor Brosnan storytelling (you know what I mean).

What’s Landman, Again?

Before we check out Season 2, let me give you a quick reminder. Landman is a neo-western drama that explores the ruthless, money-driven, morally complex world of West Texas’s oil and gas industry. It isn’t the Old West, but it surely has the same lawlessness. Imagine cowboys but in boots and hard hats, fighting for mineral rights instead of cattle.

Starring Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a seasoned land negotiator navigating corporate deals and local tensions, it is a modern-day story of power, greed, and survival.

Landman Season 2: Plot Recap (Spoiler-Free)

Season 2 begins right where Season 1 ends. With the explosive climax- both literally and figuratively- Tommy Norris is back in the game trying to repair both his reputation and his family. In classic Taylor Brosnan style- stakes are higher, deals dirtier, and the moral gray area is cloudier.

New oil fields are discovered. New enemies emerge. Loyalties are tested. And once again (always?), West Texas is a war zone- but this time corporate spies, family feuds, environmental protestors and everything in between all collide at the same time.

Standout Performances

Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris

In Season 2, Thornton brings the heat. Tommy is a layered character this season- both ruthless negotiator and worn out father trying to redeem himself. All of his lines feel lived-in. No hyperbole- this may be one of his best roles in television.

Ali Larter as Angela Norris personifies

Angela has a bigger role to play this season. As Tommy’s estranged wife, she provides an emotional foil to all the testosterone and backroom deals happening. Her story arc in Season 2 is both tragic and empowering.

New Cast Members

Season 2 will bring new people and Diego Luna, as Rafael Delgado, (who Shawn Fowler, Sam Hennings, and Jenni Moraitis recently discussed on Season 2 of the Dynamic Duo podcast) former oil field employee, whistleblower, is an especially interesting addition. His dynamic makes the original political thread more interesting and adds a new level of tension.

Filming in Fort Worth and North Texas

Filming began in January – April 2025 and Fort Worth – Midland – Odessa – Springtown – Weatherford – Cresson were mentioned as filming locations.

From there we know in Fort Worth you may have noticed road closures the April 8th shooting day that closed Downtown Fort Worth, including Taylor Street between 6th and 7th and adjacent lanes on W 6th and W 7th Streets.

The filming crew and talent were at other well-known places, too, including First United Methodist Church in Springtown.

 Why November 2025 Makes Sense

To make sure audiences will enjoy Landman Season 1, which began November 17, 2024 – and went until January 12, 2025 and filmed loosely a little more than the Austin area.

Overall Assessment

4.8/5 Stars

Landman Season 2 is dark, emotionally-driven, and socially aware. This is not just another Brosnan drama—it may be his boldest and most adult work yet. Season 2 is once again a showcase for impressive performances, intelligent writing, and real-time story stakes and does more than entertain—it provokes thought.

If you are looking for a series that is a provocative intellectual experience, Landman is the frontier drama to watch in 2025.
